A personalized children’s book for Christmas: your child stars

A Christmas story, jungle adventure or book inspired by a birth announcement card: create a personal storybook to give at Christmas.

A personalized children’s book for Christmas puts your child in the leading role. Create a character from a photo and preview the complete book for free before ordering.

In our Christmas story, your child searches for the missing star for the tree. It all begins with a snow globe.

From decorating the tree to an adventure in the snow

A Christmas story could start with something familiar: hanging baubles on the tree. Only the star for the top is missing. While looking for it, your child finds a snow globe with a sparkling star inside.

One shake, and your child is standing in a winter wonderland. A flying light leads the way up a hill. Then your child slides down on their bottom, laughing beneath snowy branches. Singing snowmen point out where to find the star. As soon as your child takes hold of it, they are back home to finish the tree together.

This is the storyline of our Christmas preset. It gives you a starting point if you want to create a personal book but do not have a story idea yet. You can browse the complete example at the personalized Christmas book example.

Your idea can take the story in a different direction

The search for the Christmas star is one possibility. For a different Christmas story, choose the option to enter your own story idea. Adding personal details to the Christmas preset will not automatically turn the search for the star into an entirely different adventure.

Does your child love trains? Your own story could begin with a Christmas train heading to a snowy village. Do you bake biscuits together every year? Perhaps searching for a missing biscuit cutter becomes the adventure. Or the story could take place somewhere you like to visit at Christmas.

You do not need to write the whole story. A few sentences about your idea and the details you would like to include can give it direction. For example: “Our daughter wants to take the Christmas train with Grandpa, but the station bell has disappeared.” That gives you a setting, a companion and a problem to solve.

For the baking story, you could mention which cutter always goes missing and who usually rolls out the dough. The story then has something of your own kitchen in it, rather than just a Christmas tree in the background.

Mention anything you would rather leave out too. If your child dislikes exciting chase scenes, you could ask for a gentle search instead.

A Christmas gift does not have to tell a Christmas story. You could choose a book inspired by the birth announcement card, a jungle adventure or a princess story. Pick something your child will enjoy after December too.

Which personal details could you include?

Think of things your child would recognize. Start with one or two details that fit the adventure. You do not need to include everything your child likes in the same book:

  • A favourite activity, such as baking, watching trains or dancing.
  • A Christmas tradition, such as decorating the tree or having dinner with grandparents.
  • A familiar place, such as your home or a holiday cottage.
  • A phrase your child uses or something they recently experienced.

Sharing the adventure with someone familiar

Alongside your child, you can add one companion: a sibling, parent, grandparent, pet or cuddly toy. Their own teddy bear could join them in the snow, or they could search for the missing star with Grandma.

At BoekjesAtelier, illustrations are AI-generated from a photo, so your child appears in the pictures too.

Choose someone your child can share an adventure with. A teddy bear that always comes to bed could be the first to discover the snow globe. A grandparent who loves baking would fit the search for the missing biscuit cutter. Read more about the first idea at From Favourite Stuffed Animal to Children's Book.

View and adjust the entire book first

Before giving the book as a gift, you can look through all the text and illustrations. The full preview is free. Check the name of the cuddly toy, a phrase you wanted to include and whether the pictures match the story. A first version may miss a detail; you can edit text and illustrations before ordering.

Give it at Christmas, or earlier so you can read it together in the weeks before Christmas. There is no need to turn it into an event. If your child would rather count the tree lights halfway through, save the rest for another day.
