Yes. You upload one clear photo of your child, and we turn it into an illustrated character who stars throughout the whole book, on the cover and on every illustration page. You do not need a professional photo: an ordinary, sharp picture where the face is clearly visible works best. You get to see several variants of the character and pick the one that looks most like your child. The photo is only used temporarily to create that character, and is deleted afterwards.

Many personalized children's books put your child's name into an existing story, sometimes with a choice of a few hairstyles and skin tones. At BoekjesAtelier the character is created from a photo of your child, the story is written around your own details and you choose the illustration style, for example matching the birth announcement card. The whole book is new, not only the name.

Your child will be recognizable, but as an illustration, not as a photorealistic portrait. Features such as hair colour and style, skin tone, eye colour and things like glasses are translated into a drawn character that fits the style you chose. So the result is a likeness, not an exact copy. You see several variants before you choose, and if you are not happy you can generate a new version or upload a different photo. A sharp, well-lit photo with the face straight on gives the best likeness.

Creating and previewing the book is completely free. You only pay when you actually order a printed copy. Decided not to order after all? Then it costs you nothing.

You have a first complete result within about 15 minutes: you upload a photo, pick a story, generate the characters and review the illustrations. Most of the work happens automatically. After that you can take as much time as you like to fine-tune the book, edit the text, regenerate illustrations or tweak details, until everything is just right.

Yes. Before checkout you see a complete preview of the book: the cover, all illustrations and all the text. Only when you are happy with the result do you proceed to ordering.

Absolutely. For each page you can edit the text or regenerate it. The same goes for the illustrations: not quite happy with an image? Generate a new version. That way you decide how the book looks before it goes to print.

Your personalized children's book is shipped within 3-4 business days of your order. Would you like it sooner? At checkout you can add Express processing (+€2.95). We then prioritise your book and ship it within 2-3 business days. The book is locally produced and printed in the Netherlands.

Every book is a square hardcover children's book measuring 21 x 21 cm, with 24 full-colour pages, printed locally in the Netherlands.

The book has 24 pages: a title page, 11 story pages each with a text page and an illustration page, and a closing end page.

Our books are fully personalized and made especially for you. Because of this, they cannot be returned. If something unexpectedly goes wrong, such as a production issue or shipping damage to the booklet, please let us know. We will of course provide an appropriate solution.

Creating illustrations requires significant computing power. To keep the platform fair, affordable, and stable for everyone, we apply a limit to the number of regenerations. This helps us maintain quality without unnecessary waste.

They are read-aloud books, made for children aged roughly 0 to 6. For a baby it is mostly a book to look at together, a toddler recognises themselves and their stuffed animal, a preschooler follows the rhyming story. You choose the theme and details yourself, so the book fits your child's age and interests.

You can create the book in Dutch or English. You choose the language while setting up the story.

The book always centers on one main character, so the story can be fully tailored to your child. In addition, you can optionally add one sidekick, for example a sibling, a parent, a pet or a favourite stuffed animal.

The illustrations in the book are generated using artificial intelligence (AI). AI image generation is powerful but not infallible. Occasionally a small imperfection appears, such as a hand with too many fingers or a detail that isn't quite right. We always show multiple variants so you can pick the best one. If an illustration still isn't to your liking, you can easily regenerate it. If you notice a serious error after receiving the printed book, please contact us. We will always look for an appropriate solution.

Photos of your child are deleted from our servers after processing. They are only used temporarily to generate a description needed to create the book, and are not reused for other purposes. Personal data is processed as minimally as possible and always in accordance with GDPR guidelines. The platform was developed by an expert with a background in cybersecurity, with privacy and security built into the design from the start.

No. Books may not feature characters or material protected by copyright or trademark, for example a well-known Disney character. Uploads and prompts that put such characters at the centre of the story will be rejected. You can of course draw inspiration from an existing art style, mood or setting. Our books focus on your own child as the main character, in a unique story made just for them.
